Fable's First Week Breaks Records

Microsoft Game Studios has announced that in its first week of release, the Xbox RPG Fable sold more than 375,000 units and grossed roughly $18.7 million (U.S.). That is over $3 million more than IMDb says was grossed by the No. 1 box office movie for the week, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (though obviously a movie ticket costs considerably less than the game).

The title set records at retailers across North America. It broke Game Rush's first-day sales record for all platforms; it was the No. 1-selling overall title on any platform last week at GameStop, and is the fastest-selling Xbox game ever for the first week at both EB Games and EB Games Canada. "Fable was the best first-week title on Xbox that we've ever had," said Jim Tyo, vice president of EB Games Canada. "The game has exceeded our expectations, and we're confident that this strong sales trend will continue."

Fable is available in North America at an estimated retail price of $49.99 (U.S.). The title will be released in Europe in October.
