Square Enix has ended the suspense and revealed the release date for the PC version of Final Fantasy XI. The online title, which will also be released for the PlayStation 2 sometime this year, will arrive in North America this October, although the exact ship date has yet to be confirmed.
"We are thrilled to introduce Final Fantasy XI to North America and hope the game will expand online gaming to a broader audience," said Jun Iwasaki, president and CEO of Square Enix. "Final Fantasy XI will lure players into an action- and emotion-packed online gaming adventure in a personalized universe where they can create their own destiny."
Japanese gamers have been playing FFXI since November of last year, when the game shipped for the PlayStation 2 in that territory. Currently, there is a subscriber base of over 280,000 users.
