Many of the fans of the Final Fantasy series hopped on the proverbial bandwagon with the later games in the series, in particular Final Fantasy VII. Perhaps realizing this particular crowd would be somewhat surprised to find that earlier Final Fantasy titles actually possess some degree of challenge, Square's decided to go easy on them, with the aptly named Easy Mode. The re-releases of both Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy 2 will contain this mode, affording players the opportunity to breeze through the games if they so desire.

Meanwhile, Square continues to breeze towards the Japanese release date for both titles, which is currently set for October 31. Given the company's history of dumbing down its titles for North American consumption, this particular move might just signal Square leaning in that direction, although nothing has been confirmed as yet.
