Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger Soundtracks En Route to North America
Square

Videogame music has come a long way since the bloops and bleeps that comprised the entirety of the scores of early games. There has been a steady increase in the quality of the music included, and nowhere is this more evident than in RPGs. The composers responsible for game music are pushing their craft more and more, to the extent that they are becoming household names (well, if your household contains a gamer or two). One company that has blazed this particular trail is Square, with a stable of highly capable musicians creating epic pieces.

Considering the quality of the music emanating out of the house that Final Fantasy built, fans should be ecstatic to hear that two classic Square soundtracks are getting an official North American release. Companies have displayed reticence at the idea of bringing videogame soundtracks over from Japan, but a building fan base has assuaged their fears. TokyoPop has confirmed with RPGamer that the soundtracks for both Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger are going to be available at its site sometime towards the end of August. In addition, the soundtrack for the multi-million selling Final Fantasy X will be available early in 2002, around the time of the domestic release of game. Check out TokyoPop for more game and anime soundtracks, and be sure to check back with RPGamer as more details of these and other soundtracks are released.
