Sgea made several announcement to open up its Sega Fes 2018 event being held in Tokyo this weekend. The announcement of most immediate interest to RPGamers was that it will be releasing remasters of the first two Shenmue games worldwide. The Shenmue I & II collection will be available for PC (via Steam), PlayStation 4, and Xbox One sometime this year.

Shenmue I & II will include all of the original features of the titles, as well as modern and classic control schemes, various graphical options, an updated UI, and English and Japanese voice acting. The two games were originally released for Sega Dreamcast (with the second also being released on Xbox), and follow Ryo Hazuki as he sets out to avenge his father's death. A third game is planned for release on PC and PlayStation 4 later this year.

In addition to this, Sega also revealed that it is reviving the tactical RPG series Sakura Wars (or Sakura Taisen) in Japan with a brand-new entry. Not many details are known at the stage, including the release date or platforms, though Sega did reveal that the game will be set in Tokyo in 1929 during the Taisho era (which lasts longer in this alternate universe than in real life). The series blends aspects of fantasy, science-fiction, dating sims, and tactical RPGs, with the last entry being Sakura Wars ~So Long, My Love~, which was released in Japan for PlayStation 2 in 2005 and then in North America in 2010 for PlayStation 2 and Nintendo Wii.

Further announcements focused on new ways for fans to enjoy classic Sega titles, though these announcements are also only for Japan at present. Sega will be releasing a Sega Mega Drive Mini, a new micro console that will let players access a number of classic Sega Genesis titles. In addition, the company will also be releasing a collection of titles for Nintendo Switch under the name Sega Ages. The collection will be available on the eShop in Japan this summer and include fifteen titles, though only of these only Sonic the Hedgehog, Phantasy Star, and Thunder Force IV were revealed.
