Just a day after announcing a western release for River City: Knights of Justice, Natsume also revealed that it will be releasing River City: Rival Showdown in North America and Europe. Another beat-'em-up RPG in the Kunio-kun series, River City: Rival Showdown will be released for Nintendo 3DS in summer 2017.

Released in Japan by Arc System Works in 2016 as Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari SP, River City: Rival Showdown gives series protagonist Kunio just three days to figure out why he is being targeted by others and to solve the latest kidnapping of Ricki's girlfriend. The game will feature local multiplayer and be playable at E3 in Los Angeles.
