Soon after XSEED Games announced that it will be releasing Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity in North America, NIS America announced that it will also be releasing a doujin Touhou RPG in English. Touhou Genso Wanderer is a roguelike set in the Touhou universe, with NIS America releasing the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita title in North America and Europe in early 2017.

Originally released in Japan as Fushigino Gensokyo: The Tower of Desire, the game sees players taking control of Reimu, the Hakurei Shrine Maiden. While visiting Rinnosuke Morichika at his shop, she touches a golden sphere that causes a tower to appear in place of his shop and the population of Gensokyo to become clones that attack on sight. Reimu sets out to resolve the incident, joined by sage-in-training Futo Mononobe. The game features various other characters from the Touhou universe, as well as a special item fusion system.
