Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked

While Atlus' Catherine is the belle of the ball for E3 2011, with a spot inside the badge holders, that isn't to say there was not other stellar titles on hand. Behind closed doors we were able to see Devil Survivor: Overclocked for the Nintendo 3DS. An enhanced remake of the first Devil Survivor title for DS which was released back in 2009, it comes recommended for those who have both completed the first game, as well as those looking to jump into the title in time for Devil Survivor 2, which will have its own impression.

Major differences include a fleshed out 8th day, as well as a full plethora of voice acting. There is also new artwork to compliment the added VAs, and players who completed the original version will notice some minor layout differences between the two versions. Still retained is the same engine, along with a nearly identical demon roster and fusion system.

For those who will be joining the fray for the first time on 3DS, the game's story revolves around three young individuals who are slated to die; counters show the number of days before their demise. Yet they quickly gain tools that will allow them to survive to the next day, along with controlling fantastic monsters that will look familiar for those who have played other titles in the Shin Megami Tensei universe. Combat remains tactical in nature, with a grid-based map, and players must make use of limited movement and attacks, often within a time limit or under an onerous goal.

While no new information was to be shed on a release date for Devil Survivor Overclocked, early 3DS adopters will not go wrong picking up this title when it hits store shelves later this year. There's plenty more from Atlus we've seen this year, so watch for additional impressions on their other upcoming titles.
