The PC version of Dragon Age: Origins (which is also coming to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3) will offer a little bit of relief from the somewhat stressful copy protection situation taking place in the PC gaming world right now. Online authentications to play newly purchased games are now commonplace, though these often raise ire from even those who acquired their products legitimately due to the restrictions these authentications impose. BioWare has just recently announced in the Dragon Age forums that the game will not be using any form of online authentication, or SecuROM, and will only require a "basic disk check."

In the same announcement, BioWare reminded the community that the Dragon Age: Origins toolset beta has been launched, offering aspiring modders a chance to take an early look at the game's toolset. As previously announced, BioWare will also be providing a significant amount of DLC after Dragon Age's release. More details should be available soon on this somewhat of a spiritual successor to the Baldur's Gate series.
