Magnacarta 2

Namco Bandai Games America announced quite a few new games at this year's Editor's Day, though only a single role-playing title was revealed from the company at this time. Magnacarta 2 has been scheduled for release in North America at some point in Q3 2009.

"Magnacarta 2 takes a cue from the traditional RPG genre with its gripping storyline and compelling characters, yet takes a progressive approach to gameplay design and style," said Todd Thorson, Director of Marketing and Public Relations, Namco Bandai Games America. "The faster-paced battle system, flexible options and seamless battlefield navigation deliver a less-restrictive, more engaging gameplay experience."

The game is developed by SoftMax, the same people that created Magna Carta: Tears of Blood, which was released on the PlayStation 2 in North America by Atlus USA. This title features about 40 hours of gameplay, no loading screens, and graphics using the Unreal Engine3.

The world of Lanzheim Continent gives free reign, as players can utilize items found throughout to dynamically change the world to their advantage, or sometimes even disadvantage. Creatures and other objects in the field react differently based on the actions of the player.

Battles are a mixture of turn-based and real-time actions by the player. Only a single character is used at once, though they can be switched between as seen fit. The player is not without some control over the other characters, though, as attributes can be assigned to the AI to set their actions.

Defeating creatures earns players items call kamonds that can be used to enhance weapons and even change fighting abilities and styles of the characters using them. The player can also use these items to create brand new items that might help them during their travels.

Skills are also important during battle and players must learn when best to utilize them. Normal battle skills can be used at any time, but special skills really need to be used only when the time is right. The highest form of these special skills is call the over-drive, which allows the player to unleash a deadly combination of skills to defeat enemies.

Players must also learn how to harness the power of KAN, which is basically magic, in battles and in the field. The KAN system utilizes four elements: Water, Wind, Fire, and Lightning to affect the player's surroundings and also defeat enemies.
