Nearly ten years since the release of the previous game in the series, Konami has announced details about Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgment. Flames of Judgment is a prequel to the original Vandal Hearts and serves to expand the storyline of the universe. Labeled as "the first next-generation installment for the classic tactical RPG series," Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgment is going to be a digital download for Xbox Live Arcade in August 2009 and the PlayStation Network in September 2009.

The game takes place on the continent of Sostegaria, the setting for the original game, and is set around two kingdoms about to go to war. The main character, Tobias Martin, is caught up in the middle of the conflict and has to fight to protect from his homeland. He seeks to gather allies to assist him in his quest, but the true threat is far more dangerous and closer than they know.

Flames of Judgment is touted as having a "speedy pace" and a "top-notch visual presentation" as well as many different battle environments. The game is also to have a deep range of customization for playable characters in order to give gamers a method to adapt to their style of gameplay.
