Alliance Race Revealed for The Burning Crusade

World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade

E3 is in full swing, and Blizzard took the opportunity to pull back the shades from its upcoming expansion for World of Warcraft, called World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade. It finally revealed the identity of the new Alliance race: known as the Draenai, the group is an off-shoot from a race of demons called the Eredar. The Blood Elves, who will join the ranks of the Horde -- enemies of the Alliance -- were previously announced last year at BlizzCon.

Posting on the official FAQ website for the expansion, Blizzard explained that "The Draenai visited many worlds in their travels" after breaking ties with their former demonic brethren. "During this exodus," Blizzard explains, "they befriended the enigmatic Naaru -- a race of beings with a deep affinity for the Holy Light of Creation that empowers the paladins of Azeroth. The Naaru blessed the Draenai with this power in an effort to help them in their struggle. This makes them a natural ally of the Alliance races who embrace this holy power." The Draenai will apparently have a deep hatred for the Orcs, and a distrust towards the Blood Elves over stolen technology.

Speculation and conjecture has been on going for gamers following the expansion, and theories have been coming non-stop since the announcement of the Blood Elves. Back in February of this year, Computer Games Magazine reported that the Draenai would be joining the Alliance -- as expected, Blizzard denied the report, and refused to make any further comments.

World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade has not yet been rated by the ESRB, but Blizzard expects it to receive the same rating as World of Warcraft -- "T" for Teen.
