Square Enix has released further information about its upcoming Final Fantasy XI expansion, Chains of Promathia. Four new areas have been unveiled:
- The Uleguerand Range, the highest area above sea level on the Quon continent. Long ago, Orcs created a pass over the mountains, which they then used to stage their incursions into Xarcabard.
- The Tavnazian Safehold, an extension of the underground complex that served as as a haven for the survivors of the war-ravaged Tavnazian Marquisate. The ruins above are still occupied by remnants of the beastmen armies, and the people of the safehold are primarily concerned with survival.
- Bibiki Bay, an inlet in the southeast of Mindartia. The Fishermen's Guild has a heavy interest in the area, and hopes to make its small fishing vessels, called "manaclippers," available to adventurers in the near future.
- The Phomiuna Aqueducts, constructed by the Tavnazian Marquisate. They are connected to the underground sacrarium of the fallen cathedral, which is said to hold a holy artifact.
Square Enix has also revealed two new NPCs. Ulmia is the granddaughter of a Tavnazian Elder. She possesses an exquisite singing voice, and is often concerned with the well-being of fellow NPC Prishe. Esha'ntarl is a high-ranking Jeunoan government official, and a member of a group called the Armathrwn Society. She has the trust of Archduke Kam'lanaut, and is involved in various research projects.
