Sega Rediscovers Phantasy Star Roots

It seems as though remakes are all the rage these days, and Sega will not be denied a piece of the pie. The company recently announced the release of Sega Ages 2500 Series Vol. 1 Phantasy Star Generation 1 for the Playstation 2. As part of a series of "comeback" titles under Sega's supervision, this Phantasy Star remake could, quite possibly, be one of the most awaited remakes among long-time RPG fans.

The Phantasy Star remake, while essentially being the same game that debuted on Sega's Master System so many years ago, will feature vastly improved graphics and sound, looking to be at least on par with PSone RPGs. An array of new spell effects will also be included to spice things up. Hopefully, this will give newcomers to the Phantasy Star Online series a new appreciation for the series' roots.

Phantasy Star Generation 1 is scheduled for release on August 28 in Japan, and a special Limited Edition will be simultaneously made available featuring a Sega Ages binder. We can only wait and hope that Sega does not count us North American gamers out for this release.
