It has recently been discovered that at the end of 2002, Square registered the trademark "Front Mission" with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Although the description of the goods and services delivered with the name is short, it refers to strategy play with some form of online
functionality. Considering this, the name could be refering to either an online segment of the popular Front Mission
series, or possibly some form of online strategy distribution, such as an addition to its existing PlayOnline system.
The exact quote from the registry is:
Word Mark: FRONT MISSION
Goods and Services: Providing computer games through a global communication network; providing video games through a global communication network; providing information on computer game strategy through a global communication network; providing information on video game strategy through a global communication network; providing information on entertainment.
Considering this is only a name registration, it could go the way of "Chrono Break" and not see the light of day for
many years, if ever. As of yet, further ties to the name or its intended purpose have not been released.
