Shinyaku Seiken Densetsu Details Emerge

In a recent issue of Jump magazine, a number of details regarding Shinyaku Seiken Densetsu, the new GameBoy Advance RPG from Square Enix, were covered. The main points revealed related to the story of the game, which is essentially a remake of the GameBoy classic Final Fantasy Adventure, or Seiken Densetsu in Japan.

One of the main changes which will be present from this older version, is that two characters will now be playable. In addition to the initial GameBoy hero, who is a 17-year-old slave gladiator in the country of Grans, players will also have the option to play as a girl descended from the Mana tribe, who has been sent on a world wide mission by her village's elder. Each of these characters will have their own unique storyline, and the progression of the game will be changed significantly depending on which is selected. In addition, a powerful group known as the Shadow Knights were also revealed and may play a key role, as they are said to refer to the mana tribe as pagans and blame the fall of the empire on mana's presence.

Unfortunately, little was said of the gameplay systems which will be present in this remade game. One of the few items that has been hinted at being modified in the upcoming release, is a quick-swap for equipment using the ring system, which gained popularity in later Seiken Densetsu games. In the original version of Seiken Densetsu, the hero was given a selection of numerous weapons, armors, and shields, all of which were accessed through the menu interface that was quite cumbersome.

Currently, Shinyaku Seiken Densetsu is scheduled for a summer release in Japan with a North American release yet to be announced.
