Sony Announces Hardware Price Cut

Sony Computer Entertainment has officially confirmed a price drop on all of its PlayStation hardware, effective immediately. As the oldest console of this current generation, such a move is bound to shake a few things up and move quite a few units, especially in tandem with the new PS2 Greatest Hits line of software products.

Here's the breakdown:

  • PlayStation 2 will drop from $299 US to $199 US
  • PSone will drop from $99 US to $49 Us
  • PSone w/ LCD Screen will drop from $199 US to $149 US
  • PS2 8MB Memory Card will drop from $34 US to $24 US
  • PS2 Dual Shock 2 Controller will drop from $34 US to $24 US
  • PSone Dual Shock Controller will drop from $29 US to $19 US

Now that the PS2 is tied with the Nintendo Gamecube for cheapest currrent console, it is expected Microsoft will make its own moves soon in regard to what some perceive as a rather hefty price tag on the Xbox. Lastly, it is also speculated that PS2 software might receive a price cut across the board, so keep watching RPGamer for further devolopments.
