Sega Unveils Future Plans
Sega

Sega held a meeting today to discuss their planned management policy for the future, hoping to make Sega a more successful corporation. Though most of the plans outlined in the meeting were geared mostly toward the Japanese markets, a few announcements were made that are sure to interest readers from the rest of the world. First, and probably most expected, was Sega's announcement of commitment to Nintendo's next-generation GameCube system. Sega reported that Sonic Team, known for such games as Phantasy Star Online and, of course, the Sonic the Hedgehog series, and Amusement Vision, the company responsible for the Daytona series, are both developing software for the GameCube. Though nothing is yet known what games are being developed by these companies, everyone is keeping a close eye on any announcements from these two developers.

In a more surprising note, it was announced by the chairman of the board of directors at Sega that Phantasy Star Online, the popular online multiplayer game, currently only available on Sega's Dreamcast, would soon be making its way onto other platforms. Which platforms will be the lucky recipients of this game has yet to be determined. Finally, Sega hinted at forming an alliance with Namco or Sony Computer Entertaiment in order to promote and support broadband networks. Whether or not such an alliance will actually form remains to be seen.
