Japanese publisher Spike Chunsoft used the final day of Game Developers Conference at San Francisco to announce various new western releases coming from the North American subsidiary it established in 2017. Included in the list of announcements, and of primary interest to RPGamers, is a North American and European release of survival RPG Zanki Zero.
Fully titled Zanki Zero: Last Beginning, the game will be released in North America and Europe for PlayStation 4 and PC (via Steam), though a release period has not been given. It appears that the PlayStation Vita version, which is set for release in Japan in summer 2018 alongside the PlayStation 4 version, will not be released in the west.
Zanki Zero is set on Gareki Island, with players starting with a group of eight characters and a base that only has a water supply station. In order for the cast to survive, they need to get stronger and add more facilities to the base. Spike Chunsoft recently revealed some extra details about the game, such as the main cast having shortened lifespans of just thirteen days.
Spike Chunsoft also announced four other non-RPG titles for western release. Steins;Gate Elite is an enhanced version of the visual novel Steins;Gate, which is coming to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Steam) in 2018. PixelJunk Monsters 2 is a tower-defence game, also coming to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Steam) but with a confirmed release date of May 25, 2018. Visual novel adventure title 428: Shibuya Scramble is coming to PlayStation 4 and PC (via Steam) in summer 2018. Finally, wrestling simulation Fire Pro Wrestling World, which is currently available on PC via Steam, will be released for PlayStation 4 in summer 2018. PixelJunk Monsters 2, Zanki Zero: Last Beginning, and 428: Shibuya Scramble will all be shown in Spike Chunsoft's GDC Twitch stream tonight, March 23, at 5pm PDT (8pm EDT).
