Koei Tecmo today put out more details about its upcoming action RPG, Toukiden 2. Along with the new details about the game's story and gameplay, the publisher also posted two new videos that show footage or two new weapon options added from its predecessor: the chain whip, and the sword-and-shield combination.

Toukiden 2 is set around the village of Mahoroba. The village is home to Kagura, the Shrine Maiden, who is under the protection of two rival groups: the Samurai and the Imperial Guard. Despite their shared task, the groups vie for dominance, threatening the village's safety and causing the leaders of the Holy Mount to send in their own group of Slayers, which includes the player character, to quell the tensions.

The game offers various weapon groups to players, including those that featured in the previous games: swords, spears, knives, gauntlets, chain-sickles (kusarigama), bows, clubs, polearms, and rifles. As mentioned above it also includes two new weapon types: the chain whip and sword-and-shield. The chain whip focuses primarily on speed, while the sword-and-shield offers a balance between attack and defence.

Players can complement their equipment loadout using the souls of fallen heroes, known as Mitama. These are collected by defeating Oni and can empower equipment as well as providing special element boosts such as Defence and Healing. Toukiden 2 introduces a new element, Control, which lets players summon their own subservient Oni that can attack foes or act as decoys.

Toukiden 2 is a sequel to PlayStation Vita game Toukiden: The Age of Demons and its enhanced version for PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita, Toukiden Kiwami. The game will be released for PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita in North America on March 21, 2017, before heading to Europe on March 24, 2017.
