Indie Update: Second Edition
02.10.2017

ALEX FULLER
MANAGING EDITOR

Indie Games

Welcome to the second in a new series of updates designed to help RPGamer cater to the ever-increasing number of indie titles that our staff regrettably does not have the resources to provide full coverage to. The idea of this column is to quickly pass on the word about certain games to our readers that they might otherwise not be made aware of, and we hope both readers and developers find this useful.

This second edition of our indie update column features the following titles: Shadows of Adam, Crypt of the NecroDancer, Cavern of Time, and Rotation Phonology: Break.

Shadows of Adam

Indie studio Something Classic Games revealed that its tribute to classic JRPGs, Shadows of Adam will be released on February 23, 2017. The game will be available on Steam, the Humble Store, and  Green Man Gaming for $14.99 for PC, Mac, and Linux. The game is set in the eponymous village of Adam, whose legendary hero Orazio disppeared ten years prior to the game's events, leaving behind his son and adopted daughter. Shadows of Adam features a turn-based combat system which utilises action point managment.

Crypt of the NecroDancer

Brace Yourself Games' rhythm-based roguelike Crypt of the NecroDancer is now available on Xbox One in North America and Europe. The game is available digitally on the console for $14.99/£11.99/€14.99, with the Xbox One version featuring an exclusive OST remix from Super Hexagon composer, Chipze. Crypt of the NecroDancer was previously released for PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita. A piece of prequel DLC, Crypt of the NecroDancer: Amplified is currently available on Steam Early Access.

Cavern of Time

Indie publisher Aldorlea Games is releasing developer SimProse Studios' Cavern of Time on Steam later today, February 10, 2017. The game will be available exclusively on PC, with pricing not yet confirmed. The game follows a young girl looking for a magical locket to cure her grandmother's illness. Cavern of time features a randomised loot system, various sidequests, and over thirty monsters to fight in a turn-based battle system.

Rotation Phonology: Break

Rotation Phonology: Break mixes tower defence and RPG combat and is developed by Hong Kong-based studio ButterChain. The game is available now for PC via Steam and costs $4.99/£3.99/€4.99. Rotation Phonology: Break's story sees players trying to overturn the draconian laws of the government in another dimension, and is split into various stages.
