The first Nintendo Direct presentation video of 2015 was shown today, and with it came plenty of RPG-related news. The first announcement was that of a new Fire Emblem game for Nintendo 3DS. The game, which is currently untitled for North America and Europe but known as Fire Emblem If in Japan, is being developed by Intelligent Systems and will feature a completely new storyline, with players' decisions said to have a bigger impact on the world than previous titles. An announcement video for the title can be viewed below.

It was also announced that two Puzzle and Dragons titles will be released in North America and Europe — Puzzle and Dragons Z and Puzzle and Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition. The games, which are hybrids of RPG and puzzle games, will be available in one physical package in May 2015, as well as being available on the Nintendo eShop.

Nintendo followed this up by announcing that Wii games will start to be made available on the Wii U eShop. These games do not have to be launched using the special Wii hardware mode, and compatible games can be controlled using just the Wii U Gamepad. There are no specific dates for RPG releases at this stage, but Pandora's Tower was listed a title planned to be available in the future.

A new video for the upcoming Wii U title, Xenoblade Chronicles X, was unveiled and can be found amongst the videos below. It was confirmed that the game is still planned for a 2015 release in North America and Europe, with Japan getting the game on April 29, 2015.

The latter set of new focused on 3DS releases, particularly the New 3DS and New 3DS XL devices, which will launch on February 13, 2015 in North America and Europe, although North America will only be receiving the New 3DS XL. In addition to the standard colour options, two special New 3DS XL versions were announced: one featuring a silver Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate design and another featuring a golden The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D design. Both versions include the game pre-installed in Europe, with North American RPGamers having to buy the Majora's Mask 3D game separately, and will be released along with their associated games on February 13, 2015. It was also announced that there would be a limited demo, with codes being sent out following the presentation, for Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate that will feature all fourteen weapon types, plus online and local multiplayer.

In other 3DS news, a release date was provided for the New 3DS port of Xenoblade Chronicles. The game will be released worldwide on April 2, 2015. The New 3DS version also features a bonus mode where players can listen to the game's soundtrack and view 3D in-game models. The game will not be compatible with earlier 3DS systems. Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. also made an appearance to show off its special moves, with the video viewable below, as well as cameos from various Fire Emblem: Awakening characters.
