Runic Games recently stated that development work required for the Xbox Live version of the original Torchlight has delayed Torchlight II's release date from May/June 2011 to sometime in July. CEO Max Schafer explained that unexpected interface work on the Xbox Live version was the cause. He adds that improvements made to the Xbox Live version have also been implemented into the PC version of Torchlight II.

The Xbox Live version of Torchlight will be released on March 9. While the first game was generally well-received, many criticized its lack of multiplayer, which the sequel will rectify.
