Japanese RPG developer Falcom, creator of the Ys series, has announced that it will be publishing a non-Windows-based title for the first time in over a decade. Gurumin, announced earlier this month for the Playstation Portable, is actually a port of a 2004 PC title, but the game will be the first self-published game for Falcom since Ys V was released for the Super Famicom in 1995.

Described as a "drilling action RPG," Gurumin will have numerous cute playable characters, and colorful scenery will abound. Parin, the main character of the game, is a 12-year-old girl forced to move from place to place during her childhood and all she truly wants is to make new friends in her newest neighborhood. Parin will find dungeons to explore and will use her trusty drill to destroy anything in her path, while also equipping different styles of headgear in order to use different skills, and have access to numerous mini-games as well. Falcom has stated that it intends to include some extras for the PSP version of the game, too. The PC version of Gurumin required text input, and it remains unclear how Falcom intends to tackle this for the PSP port.

Gurumin is tentatively scheduled for a Summer release in Japan.
