Nintendo Announces Pokémon Competition, Pokémon Emerald Pre-order Bonuses

Pokémon fanatics in the United States and Canada have been given an opportunity to take part in a Pokémon knowledge competition, and subsequently win a cache of prizes courtesy of Nintendo. Starting today, March 15, visitors to pokemon-games.com will be greeted by a "Pokémon Emerald Frontier Battle Graphic," wherein Pokémon fans will be able to register to compete in the contest.

To become the champion, contestants must go through four rounds of competition. The first round, which runs March 15 through March 31, will entail an online quiz that requires entrants to identify the name and type of 30 Pokémon randomly selected from a pool of all Hoenn Pokémon. Doing well in this round will score entrants a Pokémon Emerald wallpaper download. Furthermore, the eight entrants from each region who identify the most Pokémon in the fastest times will move on to the next round.

In the second round on April 14, entrants will be presented with the image of a Pokémon and will be challenged with the task of selecting a Pokémon type that counters that Pokémon. The prize awarded for this round will be a copy of Pokémon Box for the GameCube. The four entrants from each region who provide the most correct responses will move on to the next round on April 19, which will follow the same format as the second round; only this time, the top two winners from each region will score themselves copies of Pokémon Emerald, a $400 cash prize, and a trip for two to Seattle to compete in the final round.

Fourteen finalists will compete in the Pokémon Emerald Frontier Battle Brain Contest at the famous Space Needle in Seattle, Washington on April 19. The champion will win a cash prize of $1200, and a trip for two to the Pokémon Park in Nagoya, Japan.

Additionally, Nintendo has disclosed the loot that gamers will be privy to for pre-ordering Pokémon Emerald. The pre-order package includes a VIP card that gives the user online access to an exclusive Web site with unique content, a special collector's tin case, and an official Frontier Battle Pass. Those who pre-order will be able to pick up their bonuses with their game when it is released on May 1.
