In an announcement today, Microsoft revealed that it has teamed up with Sigil Games Online to create a new PC MMORPG entitled Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. Like many MMORPGs, Vanguard is set in a "high fantasy" world. This should be no surprise, as the founders of Sigil are none other than the noted creators of EverQuest, Brad McQuaid and Jeff Butler. Furthermore, Vanguard's development team is filled with EverQuest developers. However, the companies have already labeled Vanguard as a "premier third-generation MMORPG" destined to overthrow the problems that plague current MMORPG titles - camping, level-grinding, and downtime - to offer a fresh gaming experience. In addition, Sigil hopes to create a game that gives players enough flexibility in gameplay to log in for a short session or a marathon.
Curious RPGamers may visit Vanguard's official website to check out the game's lore and bestiary. Neither a beta schedule or release date has been announced.
