Final Fantasy XI Reaches New Milestone

Square Enix proudly announced today that PlayOnline has passed the 500,000-user mark. The high figure is attributed to the significant number of North Americans who braved the holiday shopping crowds to purchase Final Fantasy XI. In addition, the company reported that over a million characters have been created since the game's launch in May 2002.

Many more potential North American users are holding out for the PlayStation 2 version of Final Fantasy XI this coming spring, which should bring a flood of new members into Vana'diel. Other future PlayOnline membership magnets include Front Mission Online and the enigmatic Ambrosia Odyssey
