Square, Enix Stockholders Hold Meeting of Minds

The stockholders of Square and Enix gathered in Tokyo today to vote on the merger of the two companies. In the end, the merger was approved, and the two companies will begin their cooperation on April 1 of this year with a new name: Kabushikigaisha Square Enix, or Square Enix Corporation.

The merger will reportedly reduce costs, since Square can now publish its games through the means Enix brings to the union, instead of through Sony Computer Entertainment. The first title published under the new name will be the Final Fantasy XI expansion disk, Vision of Ziraat, while the last titles under the original names will be Final Fantasy X-2 for Square, and Dragon Quest Monsters III: Caravan Heart for Enix.
