Pokémon Trading Card Game 2 Shows Its Hand
Pokemon Card 2

The Pokémon brand name has been perhaps the most valuable brand name of the past year, so it is thus no surprise that Nintendo has decided to produce a sequel to the Game Boy Color adaptation of the Pokémon collectible card game. In Pokémon Trading Card Game 2: Return of the GR Group, Team Rocket (also known as the Great Rocket Group) has taken over all of the major trading card clubs in the world. The player will challenge the Team Rocket leaders in order to force them out of the clubs, and will eventually challenge the bosses at the Island of the Great Rocket Group.

Pokémon Trading Card Game 2: Return of the GR Group will retain most of the basic mechanics of the previous game. For example, extended packs and booster packs will be awarded after winning matches, and the player will receive coins after defeating the Team Rocket leaders. However, the sequel will feature both male and female main characters (differing only in appearance, music, and menu colors), fifty new opponents (which, when added to the forty from the previous game, makes ninety opponents total), new multiplayer minigames for players who want to take a break from the normal card battling, battling through the infrared port, and twice as many cards than the previous game, including thirteen originals not available on the market. Pokémon Trading Card Game 2: Return of the GR Group will be released in Japan on March 28, 2001 for 3900 yen. The game's name will most likely be changed for the North American release, considering that the "Great Rocket Group" is known as "Team Rocket" over here.
