06.01.01 - First Step Towards Wars
You know what this is the last week of? Night shift. Thank freaking God. Starting next week, I'll be rejoining
the light of day. Man, I'll actually be awake while stuff is open. No more jumping out of bed at the crack of
6:00 PM and rushing to the comic store before they close.
But anyway, I have to make note of a specific piece of music being featured today. Eliot Britton's "The World Is Beyond Square"
is roughly a 27 minute opus dedicated to the vast universe of Square games.. and a few others. Like, for instance, there's a small
section of Vampire Killer utilized around the 16 minute mark. Be wary if you have a slow
connection, it's 25 megs! If you have the means, I highly recommend downloading it, it's really well put together!

MP3 Remixes
"The World Is Beyond Square" (Cross Game Mix) by Eliot Britton
This song was composed for a sick friend, over the span of about 10 months. I have a midi version too... It's not mixed for general midi though. I want to thank all the other trackers from rpgamer who got me interested in game midi. See the following text file
for a list of songs, in order, as they appear in the mix: Themes.
"Chrono Cross Techno Mix" (Chrono Cross) by FFMusicDJ
At FFMusicDJ's request, here is my personal review of this tune:
Ok, I'm basically a sucker for any Chrono Cross tune, but I must give this mix a special note. It's damn good. The intro tune was remixed
with a techno beat and some off the wall industrial sampling. The mix is extremely well put together and it definitely captures the essence of the
original song very thoroughly. FFMusicDJ did an awesome job of morphing this tune into a very well rounded techno mix.
"The Jinn's Curse" (Final Fantasy 3) by Dennis Mott
This is a good game. You should track it down and try it out.
"The 4 Warriors of Dawn" (Final Fantasy 5) by Dennis Mott
This one goes out to Cesil Ruel- thanks for the obscure requests!
"Terra" (Final Fantasy 6) by DJ JDA
A breakbeat remix of the FF3 opening theme. Turn the volume and bass up for this; the drums are just as important as the melody. For more original works like this, check out my mp3.com site.
Midi Composition
"The Place I'll Return To Someday" (Final Fantasy 9) by Patrick
This is the opening to Final Fantasy IX, that song that plays when you turn it on. I think it's called "The Place I'll Return To Someday." This isn't a remix at all, this is a verbatim copy I sequenced.

Weekly Silliness
Yea, another obscure metal band! You know I couldn't help myself, it was due. The band in question being Throes of Dawn
is a decidedly black metal act, but I stand firmly by my position that they have a strong progressive influence. Kudos to the
following fans:
Terra
Bonus kudos go to Epochkun for his knowledge of obscure, ancient lore: "It is based upon the ancient beliefs that say that before armageddon the 12
rainbow warriors will rise and save the planet." Very nice. ;)
