Reviews, New Updates - Hiring Call
01.11.2007

ANDREW LONG
Resource Manager

RPGamer

If you desire to break into the gaming industry, have a strong affinity for the RPG genre, and have a love for writing, then RPGamer is the place for you. Since its inception in 1998, RPGamer has grown to be one of the most well known, respected, and popular RPG-centric websites in the world. Of course, none of this would be possible if it weren't for the hard work the staff of RPGamer has put in over the years. Over the past few months we have experienced turnover in several key areas, and as a result we are now looking to hire several news writers and one reviewer. The responsibilities of a news writer are as follows:

  • Complete a minimum of four news and/or media updates a week.
  • Keep up to date with the latest news and trends concerning RPGs.
  • Spend a significant amount of time online in RPGamer's IRC chat rooms.

Additionally, RPGamer's New Updates Department would like to announce that we are once again hiring for the Japandemonium column, as Jordan Jackson is unable to continue serving that function. Interested applicants should have enough facility in Japanese to be able to translate news to English, and living in Japan is a large advantage. This should not discouraged anyone who is interested from applying however; all applications will be considered equally. Below is an approximate description of the column, along with a link to a recent edition:

Japandemonium
Japandemonium is RPGamer's weekly column about all things Japan. Previous columnists have used this space to highlight news in the Japanese gaming community, from game information and screens to the events that frequently take place in Japan. They have also used the space to educate gamers about day-to-day life in Japan, and the Culture Corner feature, where short Japanese lessons and questions about living in Japan are discussed, has been very popular among our readers.

Those who are interested in joining the New Updates team should fill out the updates application, which is now available online. For the first time, RPGamer has dispensed with its old email hiring system and is now using a simple, easy-to-fill-out online form, so if the trouble of emailing has been what's kept you from applying before, now is your chance to join our team!

A basic knowledge of HTML is strongly recommended for each of these positions; that said, most updating is done automatically so this is not a necessity.

Meanwhile, we are also seeking one reviewer to join our talented reviews staff. The successful applicant will have access to at least one, and preferably more, next-gen consoles, and be willing to submit a sample review if contacted. Reviewers are responsible for turning in at least one review a month, and have an additional benefit over the rest of the staff: access to review copies of games, often before they are released.

Positions at RPGamer are currently unpaid; but this isn't to say that working here isn't without other rewards. In addition to having your writing read by a wide audience and the most renowned video game companies in the industry, RPGamer staff members are also privy to their very own @RPGamer.com email address, as well as the satisfaction of knowing that they are an integral part of RPGamer.

The deadline for applications is 12:00 AM Pacific Standard Time on Tuesday, January 23. Interviews will be held in the following week. If you have any questions or concerns, please use the message forum link below, as RPGamer staff will be watching it closely. Thank you for your interest in helping out RPGamer; we look forward to hearing from all of you!

Important note: You are welcome to apply for as many positions as you like; if you do so, however, please indicate your preferred position on the appropriate application. If you have any questions, please use the message board thread for this notice; you may also direct queries to webmaster@rpgamer.com.
