Introduction

Greetings! I'm InspiredBragi, and welcome to my Chrono Cross Endings guide. This guide is currently incomplete, and any corrections, questions (especially if something is unclear!), and/or additions can be sent to inspired.bragi@ignmail.com. Using This Guide

  • If you are planning to download this guide onto your own PC, be sure you get the stylesheet that goes with it. Just put both files in the same directory and you should be set.
  • This file works best when viewed with IE 5.5 or better. Any IE or Netscape version above 4 should work, but some of the styles might not be recognized correctly. I also recommend a resolution of 800x600 or better (I use 1024x768).
  • Things to keep in mind about the Endings Guide:
    • The Method field is either the simplest method I could discover to get that ending or it was the method I used in the case when I could only find one way to get it.
    • The Save field refers to the phrase that is attached to your save game file (marking your progress through the game). I found that simply listing the saves "during" which you could get this ending was the most helpful in describing how to get a certain ending.
    • Whenever you see the phrase "Defeat TimeDevourer" it means this: "Go to Opassa Beach. Use the TimeEgg on the pink portal. Defeat TimeDevourer using standard physical and magical attacks."
    • I refer to "ChronoCrossing" in two contexts.
      • You "ChronoCross" TimeDevourer by obtaining the ChronoCross, engaging TimeDevourer (use the TimeEgg at Opassa Beach), getting the colored spheres across the top to appear in the correct order (Yellow, Red, Green, Blue, Black, White) and then using the ChronoCross Element. This defeats TimeDevourer and nets you the "ChronoCross" Ending.
      • You "ChronoCross" characters by obtaining the ChronoCross, taking the green portal in Hydra Swamp to the Abstract World, and using the ChronoCross Key Item in Sprigg's house. This brings back to you all the characters you've ever obtained and saved after beating the game.

Endings Guide

  1. Chrono Cross

    For all the Dreamers - Our planet's dream is not over yet...

    Method:
    ChronoCross TimeDevourer (see "Using...") This ending takes A LOT OF PATIENCE. My recommendation is to choose 3 characters who all can equip 6 lv 2 Elements. Equip each of them with 5 of each of the consumable Elements for each color (Medicine, blue; Brace, yellow; etc). Also, use Accesories to get your Resist Magic up (TimeDevourer does not use physical attacks). By doing this it's not too difficult to power everyone up to lv 8 Elements and pull it off.

    ? (This is the first ending I got. Sadly, I have forgotten the order of events for this ending, and I want to get the details straight. It will be in another version soon.)

  2. Director's Cut

    Serge (ONLY)
    Method:
    Start a NewGame+. As soon as the game starts, defeat TimeDevourer. It's an easy fight with 99 Stars, Spectra Swallow, Prism Mail, Prism Helm, Sunglasses, Power Seal, and a few high-powered healing Elements (HolyHealing and CurePlus both work well).
    Description:
    Talk to the people involved in making this game. Divided into 2 hallways similar to the 1st Floor of Viper Manor (lobby, left hall, right hall, 4 rooms -- times two), and a locked door. Talk to Solt or Peppor to leave. Kid (hiding in the shadows of one of the rooms) will also change the name of any playable character for you.

    Method:
    Defeat TimeDevourer immediately after leaving Abstract World / Hydra Swamp with Harle and Sprigg.
    Description:
    Lynx and Harle live together in the now prospering Marbule. The Sage wishes for Lynx to take over as leader of Marbule. This is also the only way I know to get Harle added to your list of ChronoCrossable characters (see "Using...").

  5. Termina (Serge & Lisa)

    Fort Dragonia - Ancient dragons' dream in ruins...

    Method:
    Defeat TimeDevourer at any time from the point Kid slips into a coma (due to Lynx's venomous dagger) up until Lynx and Serge switch bodies.
    Description:
    Serge works at Lisa's Elemental Shop in Termina. Leena gets REALLY mad about the whole Lisa and Serge affair. Kid aka "Bloody Rose" aka "Red Scorpion" ends up working as a spy with Norris (this explains who brings the Hydra Humour to heal Kid if you take the 'Macha' story-path). Solt and Peppor hire Pierre to go to Fort Dragonia. They are never heard from again.

  6. Fall of Humans

    Same as Chrono Cross ending -- just a different method.

    Method:
    Defeat TimeDevourer. You get this ending under two conditions: One, you don't use the Chrono Cross to defeat TimeDevourer, and two, you're not at a point in the game where you're eligible to get one of the "special" endings.
    Description:
    TimeDevourer (Dragon - not Lavos) leads the Dwarves and Demi-Humans against the Human population of El Nido. Harle comes back to visit Arni and finds all the humans gone. She places a flower on Serge's grave at Cape Howl.

    Viper Manor - Where lies the key to the past...

    Method:
    Defeat TimeDevourer immediately after your battle with Karsh, Solt, and Peppor at Cape Howl. You get this ending regardless of whether Kid or Leena joins you after Cape Howl.
    Description:
    Serge and Leena are a couple. Serge is learning how to be an excellent fisherman. Kid kills Lynx and retrieves the "Frozen Flame" (really just the Dragon Tear), and she becomes the new General of the Acacia Dragoons. General Kid leads the Dragoons to victory, and they form the Acacia Empire from their conquests.

    Harle:
    Zat iz no probleme for Monsieur Lynx.
    Irenes:

    Harle:

    So, what iz ze agenda for today?
    {Lynx glances towards where the Sage is standing}
    Harle:
    Hm? Good morning, Sage!
    Sage:
    Oh, good morning, Lynx, Harle. You two seem to fit in quite nicely after several months here. The restoration program is coming along fine. Thanks to you two, of course.
    Harle:
    Zere iz not'ing Monsieur Lynx cannot do, non?
    Sage:
    Hahahahah. I was hoping you would say that. There is something I would like to discuss.
    Harle:
    Oui? What iz it?
    Sage:
    Hmmm... Well, as you probably know, life in Marbule is beginning to center around you. Unlike before, everybody is generating a positive attitude. This may be a golden opportunity to bring about a change to our dated way of thinking. I am sure we will have to associate with the humanfolks on equal terms now. I believe it is time for a new leader. I am too old for this.
    Harle:
    Are you saying...
    Sage:
    Yes, exactly. Once you become the leader of Marbule, the way we demi-humans view the world will change for the better... I believe you will be able to bring forth a new age in the history of demi-humans.
    Harle:
    Looks like you've kept an eye on him! Well, Monsieur Lynx? How about it? Of course, I will help, too.
    Sage:
    You do not have to answer right away. Stay here as long as you want to consider my offer. But keep in mind, everybody looks up to you and needs you. Good day.
    {Sage goes back into his home, and Lynx and Harle continue their walk}
    Harle:
    Monsieur Lynx... You will find un way to get your old self back. But until zen, let'z do what we can for ze demi-humans here, non? You are needed here. No matter how you look on the outside, you are you! And zat iz what iz important. Everybody iz looking to you for guidance. You can do it, Monsieur Lynx... I know you can!
    {fade out}
    Harle:
    Don't worry, I will be by your side... Serge...
    {change scene to the Pearly Gates, outside the Sea of Eden}
    Evil Serge:
    Well, well, well... If it isn't the 3 old farts... I'll hear what you have to say...
    Radius:
    Listen well! The countless evil deeds you have commited cannot go unpunished! We can no longer allow you to do as you please! Prepare yourself!
    Zappa:
    Ah hear ye be the bastard that killed all the dragoons dead. That's why ah'm here, to avenge me son!
    Fargo:
    I, too, am a villain, but me reasons are just! You're nothin' but a disgrace!
    Evil Serge:
    Hah. I really don't have time to deal with the likes of you...
    {Kid walks into the scene}
    Kid:
    Oi! I ain't gonna let you get in the way of Serge's plan!
    Evil Serge:
    That's the way it goes... But I do need to get used to my new body... I'll make a special exception today, and take you on as well...
    Radius:
    Prepare, scoundrel!
    Kid:
    Hah! Any time you're ready!

    Lisa's Father:
    Hi, Serge. Looks like you're getting used to working here.
    Lisa:
    Daddy, don't tell me you're going out to gather mushrooms again?
    Lisa's Father:
    Well, now that Serge is helping out, I have a lot of free time on my hands.
    Lisa:
    But what about doing the inventory!? You're the one who said there's always work to be done at Element shops!
    Lisa's Father:
    Don't worry about it. At my age, you have to live a little. Anyway, you two sure make a great couple. That's one worry off my mind! Hahahahah!!!
    Lisa:
    D-Daddy...! Don't jump to conclusions so fast!
    Lisa's Father:
    Well, I'm off to Shadow Forest.
    {Lisa's Father walks out of the store}
    Lisa:
    Be careful...And come back before dinner! Daddy still can't get enough of those mushrooms. Well, I guess it's time to get down to business!
    {Leena walks into the store}
    Leena:
    Ummm... Excuse me... You have a customer...
    Lisa:
    Ohh! Leena! I'm sorry! I didn't realize you were here.
    Leena:
    Hmph...! What's so good about Termina anyway...? (I can't believe he decided to work here, even though I found him a job in Arni!!!)
    Lisa:
    Hm? Did you say something, Leena? I can't hear you. What happened to your loud annoying voice?
    Leena:
    OHHH MY!!! I think this Element may be rotten...!? Is this the kind of merchandise you sell to your customers!?
    Lisa:
    Speaking of rotten... There was an awful stink just as you walked in...
    Leena:
    No, I'm pretty sure the smell is coming from this shop... Coming from your ROTTEN personality!
    Lisa:
    Leena...Isn't it time you went home? Alone...all by yourself, with no one to walk you home!!!
    Leena:
    ......!!! AHHHHHH...!!! Why does it have to turn out like this!?
    {fade out}
    {change scene to kitchen of Viper Manor}
    Kid:
    Why the bloody hell do I have to do this!?
    Norris:
    Stop complaining, "Bloody Rose." A spy must conduct field investigations.
    Kid:
    Since when did I become a spy!? And quit with the code name stuff!
    Norris:
    You do not like it? Then how about "Red Scorpion?"
    Kid:
    That's not the bloody point!
    (~)Orcha:
    Don'tCHA slack off, you newbies!
    Norris:
    Yes, sir!
    Kid:
    Alright, fine... I'll do it. Ya did save me life by getting me the Hydra Humour, I'spose... But none of the code name rubbish! Damn! Now where in hell did Serge and them go...?
    {fade out}
    {change scene to 3rd floor of Fort Dragonia}
    Solt:
    Is something wrongly wrong, Monsieur Pierre? This is it! There is no turning back now!
    Peppor:
    Shake it! Pierre! Solt! J-Just you wait, Lynx! We'll teach you a lesson about General Viper's spice, I mean, spite! Shake it and say your prayers! ...Not that it'll do any good!
    Solt:
    Monsieur Pierre! Let us be on our way!
    Pierre:
    Actually... Moi seem to have an upset stomach from last night's party at Monsieur Zappa's. It is not a good idea for moi to run...
    Solt:
    Are you seriously serious about being a hero?
    Peppor:
    Th-That's pathetic!!!
    {Solt and Peppor run off down the hall}
    Pierre:
    P-Please! Do not run!!!
    {fade out}
    {change scene to top of Fort Dragonia}
    Peppor:
    H-Huh!? What just happened!? W-What are we doin' out here!? W-We're so high up! I-Is this thing floatin'!?
    Solt:
    Our bodies seem to have passed through the floor just now...
    Peppor:
    Th-This sure is some fort... Huh, Pierre? ......!? W-What's shakin', Pierre? You alright? You don't look so well. W-Who knows if there'll be a toilet up ahead! Shake it and hold it in!
    Pierre:
    Moi should be fine... Moi am a hero... I-I'll do mon best...
    Peppor:
    W-We shook out a lot of cash to hire you! You better!!! {the three walk closer to the large doors}
    Peppor:
    S-Someone shake it and open that door!
    Solt:
    We shall leave this up to you, Peppor!
    Peppor:
    W-Why me!?
    Pierre:
    Tah ta-tah! Moi say we decide this with a game of rock, paper, scissors. That would be appropriate, non?
    Peppor:
    G-Good idea! You're a true hero, alright! OK, ready...? Rock, paper, scissor... SHAKE!
    Pierre:
    ......
    Solt:
    It is you, Monsieur Pierre!
    Pierre:
    Ohhhhhh... Moi feel the squirts coming on...! Oh, the pain... the pain...
    Peppor:
    ...Ohhh man... Alright, let's shake another game...

    He almost had one! He hit a 10 foot lion shark, but it got away, just as he was about to hoist it up.
    Leena:
    Ooooh...That's too bad. But I still can't believe you used to be housekeeper, Serge. You really are something!
    Fisherman:
    You said it. I've been fishing all my life, and I've yet to come across someone so talented. I sure got myself a great apprentice. I give him a perfect 10!
    Leena:
    Me, too! A perfect 10!
    Fisherman:
    There's no doubt, this guy's going to make it big!
    Leena:
    Oh yeah! A superstar!
    Fisherman:
    He'll be all set to marry you, Leena, and settle down to a sweet, loving family! You go girl!
    Leena:
    Oh yeah! Go, go!...I mean...
    {Serge turns away}
    Fisherman:
    Hah ha ha! There's nothing to be embarrassed of!
    Kiki:
    Leena, you're blushing!
    Leena:
    Oh! Pu-lease!
    {Serge looks around}
    Fisherman:
    Hm? What is it, Serge? Huh? No, I didn't hear nothin'. You're probably just tired. We had it tough out there.
    Leena:
    Thats right. Ok, then! Come on, Serge, I'll make you a nice lunch. You have to eat a lot of protein and build up those muscles!
    Fisherman:
    Oh man...You lovebirds...!
    Leena:
    Come on! Stop teasing me!
    Fisherman:
    Hah ha ha! There's nothing to be embarrassed of!
    Kiki:
    Leena, you're blushing again!
    {fade out}
    {change scene to Kid in Viper Manor}
    Kid:
    I got you now, LYNX!!! Oi! That's the Frozen Flame, ain't it!?
    Lynx:
    Are you one of the Radical Dreamers!?
    Kid:
    Shut up! In the name of Lucca...!!!
    Lynx:
    Hah...! What are you talking abou...
    {Slashing, sword-clashing sounds}
    Lynx:
    Ughhhhhh!!!
    {Kid walks out into hall with Dragon Tear (Frozen Flame?) in hand}
    Kid:
    Heh-heh-heh-heh! HA-HA-HA-HA-HAAA! Kill two birds with one stone! Heh-heh!
    {fade out}
    {Kid comes down the elevator into the Main Hall of Viper Manor. Zoah, Marcy, Karsh and a host of troops await her arrival}
    Karsh:
    Teeeen-huuut! I introduce to you, the new lord of El Nido...General Kid! General...
    General Kid:
    Oi! As of today, I stand before you as the new lord of El Nido! Ahahahahaha...!
    {Solider comes running up}
    Solider:
    General! I have important news! The Porre Army is heading this way!!!
    Troops:
    HUH!? What!?
    ZOAH:
    ARGH!!!
    {Troops run around aimlessly}
    General Kid:
    Would ya all just calm down!!! Remember, we have the Frozen Flame! Plus, there's nothin' to worry about, with Kid in charge!
    Karsh:
    Fall in line!!!
    {Troops organize themselves in original formation}
    General Kid:
    After we defeat the Kingdom of Guardia, it's time to put these Porre blokes in their place!
    Troops:
    Rrrargh! Yes, General Kid!!! Rrrargh! Yes, General Kid!!!
    ZOAH:
    ARGH!!!
    {everyone goes running out}
    ZOAH:
    COME! FOLLOW ME!!!

    Later...The Acacia Dragoons, led by General Kid...went on to conquer the neighboring countries with ease...It was the birth of a new sovereign nation...The Acacia Empire...And standing next to General Kid's throne...was the Frozen Flame...

Game Progression Guide

Here's a few tid bits to help get through this game in a timely fashion, but not miss anything worth seeing:

  • When you first play through the game, feel free to play casually. You have to keep track of one thing though: who you went with to Viper Manor the first time (Guile, Nykki, or Pierre).
  • After going through the game once, I recommend picking up a Character FAQ or Walkthrough, so you don't miss any characters.
  • When you start your first NewGame+, keep in mind that you're not going to play to the end this time.
  • Your second time through the game, you should choose a Viper Manor path you've not taken yet. You should also choose either Korcha or Macha, which ever one you didn't choose last time. When you get to the point in the game where it's just Lynx, Harle, and Sprigg in the group, go defeat TimeDevourer and save your ending data.
  • Now start another NewGame+. This time through the game get every character possible. Take the last Viper Manor path. Near the end of this game, you should be able to ChronoCross back enough characters to give you every character in the game.
  • After playing through the game only two and a half times and getting every character, now you can play back through once more and stop periodically to witness each ending listed above.
  • Good luck in playing through once of the best games ever!
