Why settle for a horse when you can invent your own mythical beast of burden? While the Final Fantasy series of games has many other claims to fame, one of the big ones is its oh-so-lovable and oh-so-marketable chocobo. It's no surprise that the beast has had several games to its name, and Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon ~Labyrinth Forgotten by Time~ (there's a mouthful!), is the latest featuring it, and it's on Nintendo's Wii no less.
"Fun for a dungeon crawler, but loses its appeal afterwards."

Not only does this carry on the line of Chocobo spin-off games, it's also the latest of many Mysterious Dungeon titles. For those not familiar to the series, they are dungeon crawlers. Many of them have centered around the Dragon Quest universe, but given that both series are part of the same entity now, it only makes sense that this came about.

Gameplay wise, it's fun. The Wii controller has been the source of many innovations for games, and while this title doesn't rock the boat with its use, it's convenient to use either way while controlling your chocobo. How he/she/it can speak to humans is beyond me, but it's fantasy...and it's a chocobo! Graphics wise, there is better on the Wii, though the emphasis is more on the gameplay and warks, if you're into that kind of thing.

End result? Fun for a dungeon crawler, but loses its appeal afterwards. I personally play a mobile phone iteration of the Mysterious Dungeon series while going to work on the train, so it's not personal bias. Still, cute or cool as the chocobo is, whether it warrants its own dungeon crawler is questionable at best. Cool if it's your cup of tea, but if not...you can safely give it a pass.
