SCREENSHOT

There were a couple stations showing Rogue Galaxy for the PlayStation 2. I am a huge fan of Level 5, so the style of the game appealed to me right away. Cel-shaded characters in a highly colorful environment fill the screen. The characters move with a bounce in their step. My party was three characters. The main character is a burly looking man, carrying a very jagged sword. Following him around the map are two female characters.

As I roam around the town, NPCs fade into view when you get close, and disappear when you walk away. The NPCs continued to mention that I should catch up to Juri, but no one explains where she went. After completely exploring the town, I was able to venture outside.

Leaving town does not have any loading delays. The zone name appears on the bottom which is the only sign of the new zone. Battles start with a flashing, red "WARNING!!!" in the middle of the screen. Then the monsters appear and the battle begins. My main strategy was to use the AI to control the other characters and I fought with the male character directly. While fighting, the AI would suggest powerful moves to do, sometimes giving an option of different moves selectable with L1 or L2, or L3. If selected, a skippable cut-scene declaring the move. The effects of the move were hard to discern, but there were less monsters after using offensive ones, so it worked.

The chests can have multiple items, or catching me off-guard, one of them turned into a mimic and sprinted away. I chased it down, but it didn't give me anything special. After a few more battles, my playtime expired and the demo reset.
