The Vincent Valentine-starring action RPG, which almost played out more like an action/FPS hybrid than any kind of action RPG I had played before, seemed to be an interesting mishmash of different ideas. Unfortunately, most of them didn't seem to come over too well in the execution department.
I liked the look of the game -- the graphics were very nice, and the art style and animations were both top notch. There wasn't much of the story to observe, so most of my frustrations and dislikes of Dirge of Cerberus stemmed from its flawed gameplay. The camera was a pain, particularly when Vincent started moving very quickly and acrobatically when pulling off some of his more actiony attacks. The controls were sluggish, unintuitive, and exceedingly complex. One particularly painful drawback was the inability to run whenever Vincent switched from third person over-the-shoulder view to first-person mode for shooting.
There were certainly some neat ideas at play, but for me as a non-FPS fan, it seems like it might be more difficult to get some real enjoyment out of the game's style of play.
