Mythri - First Impressions
Mythri Logo

As much as I would have adored a much more complete version of Mythri, it is understandably still under reconstruction, being moved from GBC to GBA format. The graphics upgrade, shown in already released screenshots, nevertheless really impressed me. It wasn't much, but it definitely whets my appetite for more.

While the demo doesn't have the battle engine yet installed, I was able to find out a little bit about it as I wandered around a forested area. On the negative side, there were still some obvious bugs in need of working out. Going up and down the steeper inclinations resulted in the normally fluid motion coming to a grinding crawl; a dash function will be implemented, but wasn't currently useable. Also slightly disappointing to note was the same crawl of motions beside the river (which, on a very bright note, looked good enough to drink out of).

So what was good about Mythri? Well, I got a good look at the manga stills which are an integral part of the game's storytelling. These manga stills, coming in three different sizes, portray overall moods as well as a character's disposition and emotions. Also of a curious note was a small option for a text engine. What appeared to be gibber suddenly became a little clearer, as similar text has been found on the Mythri website. It's possible this may be some kind of alternative language used in the game, but only time will tell if this is true, or if this text serves another purpose altogether.
