Mythica Impressions
Mythica

Easily one of the most impressive showings in Microsoft's PC booth was its recently-announced MMORPG, Mythica. The game is well under way, and the demo we were showed in an exclusive developers' meeting was well on its way to completion.

On the surface, Mythica looks like a typical MMORPG, but when you get into the details, it is highly innovative. As far as presentation, the game looks and feels smooth. It was running on a high-power machine, with the resolution turned all the way up. It looked amazing, with all the pre-requisites of a next-generation game, graphically.

The gameplay utilizes a more typical MMORPG system, only in Mythica, there are virtually no delays and everyone has their own special abilities. There are also private zones, or dungeons, in which you and your friends can enter and explore alone, without the hassle of a public area.

The real unique part of Mythica, though, is the persona you take on with your character. Each player is a god recruited straight from Valhalla. Your goal is to gain followers and do what any good diety should do and work for the good of said followers. The real advantage to this is that, in addition to just regular experience, if you successfully complete a quest for the benefit of your worshipers, you will gain skills and sacrifces from them that can be utilized to your advantage.

No doubt, this will be one of the big MMORPGs for 2004, so stay tuned to RPGamer as we continue to cover this innovative title.
