Googleshng - 4:00 EST
Resident Evil 4 is, as advertised, a radical departure from the rest
of the series. To give a really horrible example, it has yellow herbs.

What the heck is the point of this? I have an intro blurb sitting right there...

Hey!
I just read the news about the main writers of Xeno series quitting and I was baffled. I loved the serie and knew that they had 6 chapter to produce. Since the story is the main driver of this game, what will they do? Will they just cancel the game? Find another writer to pursue? Is it to soon to tell? What you guys think?

I think you need to read more carefully. The MAIN writer for Xenosaga didn't quit, his wife who was
helping with the writing quit. Nothing to worry about from where you sit.

Hey, man, I've been reading for 2 or 3 years, first letter, I think. Yeah,
definately.
Anywho, the quote said by Booster, in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven
Stars (one of my favorite games, by the way). That means I get a tilde,
right? Woohoo!
Anyways, on to the questions! First off, what do you think of FFXII? Oddly
enough, I am actually really looking foward to it. Sure, it's different,
but it looks good nonetheless. Secondly, what about the new Zelda game for
GCN? DANG, it looks really good, even from the very few screens. I've
always thought that no Zelda game could match Ocarina of Time, but I dunno
anymore... nah, the new one will be the SECOND best Zelda game, methinks.

I think that I'm contractually obligated to play FF12 when it comes out, but I don't like a lot of what I've heard about it thus far. Zelda on the other hand looks quite spiffy.

This sort of thing, for future reference, belongs in the editorials section.

this a follow up to the question you answered in the jan 18th 2005 column:
"Ok...granted, it's been a while since I've played through FFVII. But the
possible allusions towards Christianity seemed a little off base in one
regard: Aeris was never "reborn." She died, and never came back. The brief
glimpse of her at the end was just as a memory of her. It was more of an "in
honor of her actions" moment than "she came back" moment. I can't be the
only person who thinks the idea of her coming back is absurd.
Okay...here's the question....the ending CGI scene (you know...the one after
the credits)...was the human race obliterated? That's what I always thought.
Bugenhagen made the comment at one point in the game that ultimately, the
planet would decide if humans are good or bad. In my opinion, it looked as
though the planet decided it would ultimately be better off without humans,
and thus saved itself by wiping out the human race."
- As great of a game as FF7 is and was, i just think such a question should
get a little more of an answer (^0^)
In the final ending FMV of the game, the "brief glimpse of her" is not a
memory. It is actually a 3rd person view of her conciousness in the
lifestream, RIGHT before she merges with the lifestream: hence the reason
why right after she merges with the life stream, the life stream appears and
fights off the meteor.. the entire reason she sacrificed herself was so that
she could become one with the planet. it was not until she merged with the
lifestream that it was either strong enough to defend the planet OR that the
lifestream understood its job/task of defending against Meteor...
"Aeris was never reborn" is arguably not true: in the final FMV cutscenes,
Cloud says something to the effect of "I think we will see her again"...
you'll note that at the beginning of the game, the ONLY place flowers grew
(in midgar) were in the church you first meet her in. at the very end of the
game, midgar is covered in flowers and vines... if you recall the storyline
portion of the game when you first get to view Bugenhagen's Observatory's
astrological-thing (cant remember what its called), he displays almost a
visual-walkthrough of how the life stream works: people die, they become one
with the planet, they re-emerge as a tree, they die, merge with planet,
reincarnate to something else.. a cycle.. well, Aeris WAS "reborn"
(lifestream) as the flowers in Midgar.. If you take the entire storyline as
a whole into concideration, what better place for Aeris to be "reborn" than
at Midgar? - thats where Meteor attacked, thats where (aeris and) the
lifestream first battled Meteor, and it was Midgar that essentially the root
of all evil and root of the destruction of the planet..
As a side note: When you take Bugenhagen to the shrine where Aeris was
killed, one of the storyline dialogue things he says is: "Holy... the
ultimate White Magic. Magic that might stand against Meteor. Perhaps our
last hope to save the planet from Meteor. If a soul seeking Holy reaches the
planet, it will appear."
Finally, the LAST thing you hear when the ending FMV is 10 seconds from
ending, after you see Midgar in ruins and that RedXIII seems to have
offspring.. you hear children laughing. i dont see how it could have
possibly meant anything other than a confirmation that humans were not
totally wiped out.. i dont see how it could have been anything symbolic of
"those that were not wiped out actually were" (they are in heaven and reborn
as children) or whatever..
If it were 2 years ago, I could see this becoming a very heated argument and
battle over the storyline interpretations. Since FF7 Advent Children is
coming out, i think most will probably just wait to get Square's version of
what happened (^0^)

Agreed. Let's all wait, shall we?

Edjumication on the subject of Ys
|
In the previous Q&A, someone asked a question about Ys VI. I do want to
point out that while the games aren't very 'popular' here, they're
considered one of the top selling PC RPG series in Japan.
The Ys games are pretty popular in Japan, have been kind of a sleeper hit
in the US because they never got the publicity that they had in their
native language. We were very fortunate to get the first three games- 1
and 2 were released on the Turbo Duo.. and 1 was also released on the Sega
Master System. Then 3 was released on the Turbo Duo, Genesis, and SNES in
the US.
3 is kind of the 'red-headed step child' (yes, pun intended) of the series
and was known for being pretty difficult of a side scrolling RPG-type
game. While it's a fun game, it's nowhere near as fun as the other 5 of
the series.
Ark of Napishtim is getting more publicity in the States than the other
games were even fortunate to have been able to muster. It's a great game-
people who have played the PC version of it can attest to this. I'm
looking forward to the PS2 version, because I want to see more people
appreciate the games for what they are.

Googleshng
Right, but we were discussing why the new Ys game isn't getting a lot of hype so... what's your point here exactly?
|
Googleshng:
Seriously though. Yellow herbs. Crazy stuff.
Sometimes, an Googleshng is just a cake.
Whatchoo talkin about no submit button at the bottom?
