[01/14/2004] The internship. It's that transitional phase in a college student's life where one goes from peon student to peon worker. I just started one at a political wire service in Madison, Wisconsin. If that sounds boring, for the most part…it is. However, I've been following politics and current events enough for the last few years to not be completely lost, and it's also offered the opportunity to see the State Assembly in action.
I don't know about you, but there's something amusing (or disgusting, either one works) about watching random pages wandering the assembly hall and doing grunt tasks. Keep in mind these tasks don't include the standard page duty of fetching reports. They were taking pizza orders for legislators who were quite obviously ignoring whoever was speaking at that time. And we all thought children had a short attention span. Sheesh.
