[10/06/2002]   Well... Long time, no see. ASV here once again. I don't think I need to hog the floor tonight for anything, so I'll pass it directly on to the magnificent, the dignified, the hard-working, the Robust Stu.

Hi folks. Wow, I can't believe I'm finally a gold writer. I remember when this section first opened, I thought it was a cool idea and something to shoot for, but I didn't think I'd ever have the time or inclination to write reviews, but I did and now I'm hooked (obviously). Well, I guess since I have this space, I should come up with some advice for aspiring review writers. Well, all I really have to say is don't get discouraged if your review gets rejected, and to just keep trying. Like my first attempt at a review, Paws literally KICKED MY ASS... she must have gone on for three paragraphs listing stuff that was wrong with it. I got discouraged for awhile, but then attempted it again (keeping in mind the stuff she said) and I finally started getting them posted. The best way to do things (and what worked for me) was to find reviews that had gotten posted, and model them after that. Obviously, don't copy word for word substituting in the game title, but that's basically the idea, and should get you off on a good start to a hopefully long and glorious career as a reviewer. Well, I guess that's it, so all I have to say is keep sending in the reviews to keep this section going, and I want to say thanks to Paws, Amish, and ASV for keeping PsoV going (believe me, it's plenty of work), and also all the people who have read, responded to and (hopefully) enjoyed my reviews, as scathing as they can sometimes be. Oh, and of course I have to plug my website! All my reviews are archived there, with more to come (including non-RPG reviews) and some wrestling and other stuff, too. That can be found at http://rachel.ns.purchase.edu/~scarapol/robust/ Take care all! Robust Stu

Submission Booboos -  Informative VS. Introspective

Although a large number of other sites and the majority of gaming magazines review games with the almost sole purpose of telling you whether a game is good or not, RPGamer's staff try to make theirs highly informative with a tidbit of our professional perspective on the game. But, just because we do this doesn't necessarily mean that you need to. In fact, some of the best (and most fun to read) reviews come entirely from your point of view </pun> and not from a desire to go into the niggly so-and-so of every aspect of a game.
