BioWare Sues Interplay
BioWare

Tack one more onto Interplay's list of problems. Canada-based developer BioWare, creator of the hugely successful Baldur's Gate series, has recently filed a lawsuit against the ailing publisher. According to BioWare, Interplay breached two contracts by sublicensing the distribution of BioWare games without the developer's consent. BioWare has stated that it is continuing development on its upcoming PC RPG, Neverwinter Nights, with Black Isle Studios, a division of Interplay, retaining publishing rights, despite the lawsuit. No further comments were made concerning the suit by either BioWare or Interplay.

In related news, both BioWare and Parallax Software, creators of the hit Descent series, have filed lawsuits against Interplay, Virgin Interactive, and Titus Interactive. The developers' complaint alleges a failure on the part of the companies to pay additional royalties due to BioWare and Parallax. RPGamer will continue to report on any new developments in this case as soon as they occur.
