Kingdom Hearts (PlayStation 2)

This is just one of those games that nobody thought would ever happen. RPGamer fanboys fanpersons have been fantasizing about a crossover RPG for as long as Erdrick Loto was proclaimed dead and buried in the first Final Fantasy. Square, not wanting to do just any crossover, found one of the most bizarre choices by choosing one of the most beloved companies in the world to invade: Disney.

As scary of a concept as this is to some people, the game itself is actually quite cool. While many feared a cutesy game where one spent most of their time yelling Lali-ho! At the seven dwarves, the game's characters and settings are from a WIDE variety of Disney's animated ventures, even daring to go into Tim Burton's demented world of Nightmare before Christmas. That is just hard to beat.

Kingdom Hearts is poised to help RPGs break into an even wider audience, which can do nothing but good things for our obsessively beloved genre of games. If you want to know more of the details, head on over to our Kingdom Hearts coverage. Expect Square's latest to hit stores on September 17th.
