The Saving Throw returns a week late, delayed because of the excitement of E3. This week, I give you a story about a fight that went very badly for my players despite, or perhaps due to, their overconfidence. I also give you another story where a planning mistake on my part nearly led the player characters to their doom, but another mistake during play allowed them to barely avoid disaster.
Which means that it's happened again... welcome to another all-me week here at the Saving Throw. I'd give myself some golden carets for this, but somehow it just feels weird to do that. In fact, I'm beginning to feel like I'm writing to myself. I can handle talking to myself, as that's a sign of intelligence, after all--well, either that or insanity, either of which probably applies. But to write to myself? It just seems a step too far.
So, yes, please help me... send in something. I don't want to write to myself anymore. Let me read your stories, advice, opinions, and your creations! Oh, and letting others read them too, of course! That's what the Saving Throw is about, after all.
Gaming Tip of the Week
"Creating a battle the players can't win but which they can survive is a very tricky affair."
Ever have the feeling the players just aren't paying attention? "Hey, I know ten of these guys took out hundreds of better equipped troops, but the nine of us should have no problem against only two of them." *sigh*
White Wolf Publishing has announced that it is releasing a third edition base set for the Vampire: The Eternal Struggle in late summer. The set will include "over 100 new cards, reprints of necessary cards with new art, starter decks for the Malkavian Antitribu, Brujah Antitribu, Tremere Antitribu, and Tzimisce, and added draft functionality on many of the cards." There is no word yet on a specific release date.
Upper Deck Entertainment has announced that Hellboy will be added to its Vs. System superhero trading card game line in Spring 2007. The set will be the first release of the new Essential Collection, and will consist of two 60-card decks, two different Hellboy-themed endurance trackers, five foil cards from the set, one rulebook, and one lithograph. 100 of these lithographs will be signed by Mike Mignola, the creator of the Hellboy comic series. These Essential Collection sets will also contain original artwork by Mignola and other artists as well as two plastic storage cases.
And so it ends. . .
Remember to send in your submissions for next week, as the Saving Throw really will return. I mean it this time. After all, there's no giant annual video game trade show next week to interrupt the routine around here, or if there is, no one's told me about it. So, save me from another all-me week, and I'll be back again to make my next Saving Throw.
