Do you ever get tired of "tame" d20 games? Do you want to take your game over the top? Then The
Slayers d20 Role-Playing Game just might be for you. This game setting, based on the popular anime from the 1990s, is
all about over the top action and explosive spell slinging. As specific as it is, it will not work for all Game Masters and
players, but it brings a nice twist to the same old d20 gaming.
Only three core races are provided, although the beastmen race is actually ten. A beastman is a combination of human and beast
with ten choices for the beast half of the creature, including bear, bull, boar, wolf, goat, dog, fox, lizard, raccoon and even
fish halves. The beast half of the creature determines the ability score modifiers for the race. The dragon race is actually
the Golden Dragon race for players, and provides and opportunity to play a creature that lots of players would relish. The
final player race is the Human. Humans make up the vast majority of the world of Slayers, and are the weakest race. They are
basically unchanged from the Human race provided in the Player's Handbook. Seven race templates, including the chimera,
copy, half-demon, half-dragon, half-golem, half-Mazoku, and half-troll provide options for expanding the three core races.
Few of the core d20 classes are available in The Slayers d20 Role-Playing Game with only the rogue and wizard keeping to
their original design. The warrior is similar to the fighter, while the bandit, bounty hunter, loremaster, noble and priest round
out the selection of core classes. Eight prestige classes round out and define characters at higher levels.
Combat and magic is yet another point where The Slayers d20 Role-Playing Game is super charged compared to normal d20 games.
The magic system tries very hard to stay true to The Slayers universe, and the result is power to the extreme. It is
definitely unbalanced, when compared to other d20 systems, but it works well when contained within itself.
For gamers who are fans of The Slayers or those just looking for a super powered game, The Slayers d20 Role-Playing
Game fills that role beautifully.
