Following up the first two chapters of the Curse of the Crimson Throne adventure path is a tall order for anyone, but Richard Pett proves he is more than capable of stepping up to that challenge with Escape from Old Korvosa.

With the city in turmoil, the new queen has taken the drastic step of sealing off Old Korvosa, although her intentions are far from benevolent. Left to fend for themselves, the residents of the slums soon become victims of criminal warlords and far worse. It is into this nest of vipers that the player characters must descend in order to find the one man who can shed light on the recent developments in the city.

Overlayed across this backdrop is an excellent story, with twists and turns, and nasty villains determined to thwart any attempts by outsiders to interfere with their newly staked out territories, no matter how small. And it does not take long for the player characters to run afoul of the Red Mantis, viscious assassins featured in the previous chapter.

Successfully navigating the perils of Old Korvosa will put the player characters one step closer to unravelling the nightmare that has descended on Korvosa, and freeing the people from a fate far worse than death.

Accompanying the adventure is the usual assortment of articles providing enlightment to the world of Golarion. This particular issue has a helpful article on the Red Mantis, the premiere assassins of Golarion. An article covering rakshasa, who also feature heavily in the adventure in this issue, is provided as well. Eando Kline, Pathfinder, returns again, this time setting across the mountains of Belkzen. He finds himself pursued by orcs and, in typical fashion, jumps from the frying pan and into the fire.

Rounding out the chapter is a collection of five new monsters in the bestiary. From Achaekek, the Mantis God to an agent of divine retribution, an undead elephant to a multiheaded rakshasa variant and a swarm of tiny, red monkeys, the selection in this chapter is varied indeed. Finally, the bestiary includes an encounter chart for Old Korvosa's new, wild state.
