Submitting Fan Material

The Fan Material section is your place to share the characters, classes, prestige classes, skills and abilities, vehicles, equipment, spells, adventures, and anything else you've created for tabletop games, including even character sheets.

  • Separate submissions, please

    Due to the way I organize incoming submissions, please keep individual submissions separate. If you are placing your submissions in the email itself, then please send only one submission in each message. If you are sending submissions in attachments (text format is preferred), then please place each submission in individual attachments. Separate emails are still preferred when using attachments.

  • Avoid mature content and profanity.

    Fan material submissions should have no swearing, and please keep the story to roughly a PG-13 level in terms of violent or sexual content. Submissons which contain subject matter appropriate only for mature audiences cannot be accepted.

  • Let me know how you wish to be credited.

    Give me the name, nickname, or alias you want me to use to credit you for your submission, and if you want me to link to one of your e-mail addresses. I hope it is obvious that I will not use any profane or obscene nickname or alias, and thus, this will also delay the publishing of your submission. Generally, if you do not specify how you want to be credit, I'll typically use whatever you sign off with or your email username. I only link to an email when requested to.

  • Be specific about which game and setting the material is for.

    This is very important! Keep in mind that most tabletop RPGs out there also have mutliple editions as well, and may have been released by different companies. Thus, I need the name of the game and preferably at least one of the following: the edition number, the publisher, or any other identifier that distinguishes that game from other versions. If you aren't sure you're including enough information, include all you can to help me identify the game.

    Note in some cases, some games have a generally agreed upon shorthand to distinguish between different versions. For the Star Wars RPG, there is the version produced by West End Games, which is now out of print, and the current version produced by Wizards of the Coast. I have seen the old West End Games version referred to as Star Wars d6, and the new Wizards of the Coast version referred to as Star Wars d20. Using either is enough information for me.

  • Use a format appropriate for the game and material in question.

    If possible, please look over official material from the game to get an idea of the format they use, and try to follow that format if and where reasonable to do so.

  • For character sheets and other form-type submissions, .doc or .pdf formats are preferred.

    Other formats may be accepted as well, but it is advised that you ask me first before creating anything in another format. If it's something you've already created, you may just send it in, and I'll decide whether to post it or not. I just don't want anyone to go to the trouble of creating something to submit to me without knowing if I'll accept it.

  • Break adventures up into smaller chunks.

    Most pre-created adventures are broken up into three or four sections, and I prefer you do the same; of course, it doesn't have to be three or four sections, but that is usually best. I intend to put these different sections on separate pages with their own headings. You can identify these sections however you want, i.e. "Act I", "Chapter 1", "The Beginning", or a specific title.

  • You can submit either a stand-alone adventure, or submit an adventure that will be part of a larger, ongoing story arc. I will accept either. Please specify which type of adventure you are submitting, however, so that I can give it the appropriate treatment.

  • Please proof all submissions first.

    I will almost certainly look over your submissions myself, and I have no problem with correcting minor issues. If you have errors which require significant rewording to correct, or if I am not certain what you are getting at, I will generally ask you to correct said errors and resubmit. I'd rather do that than take the chance of misinterpreting something or otherwise improperly editing your submissions.

    Submissions generally will not be rejected due to minor grammar or spelling errors, but extremely bad spelling or grammar may result in a request for a rewrite. If the errors can be fixed without resorting to a rewrite, I will usually do so myself, but it is always best to proof yourself, as I do miss errors sometimes.
