This event occurred during a casual game of Magic: The Gathering with a friend. The time frame was a few months after the Ice Age expansion had been released. We were each playing with a deck our best cards, though we were favoring our new Ice Age cards.

The match started off slow, and I was light on creatures. It seemed that every time I would try to summon a creature, my friend would find some way to either stop me or defeat it. Not wanting to end the game too quickly, he began to go easy on me for a few turns. He was able to summon an Infernal Denizen. This card allows the owner to gain control of a target creature at the cost of two swamps per turn. He was beating me down with this guy, but I knew he couldn't last because of the upkeep.

Eventually, he ran out of swamps to sacrifice, allowing me to take control of a creature of my choice. I took control of his Chaos Lord and was able to use its first strike ability to defeat his Infernal Denizen. He still won, because it had taken too long to me to defeat the Denizen. I just couldn't recover.

I drew an Icy Manipulator, which when used allowed me to tap an artifact, creature, or land of my choice. Once I was able to play it, I would tap his Infernal Denizen to keep him from taking over my creatures. He was annoyed, but things were a little more even after that.

After having so much extra land, but no creatures, I had built up enough to summon my Polar Kraken. Once on board, I was able to wait until he was out of swamps. I could then take over his Royal Assassin to defeat his own tapped Infernal Denizen. I then pounded him with my trampling Polar Kraken. It was not a pretty sight.
