So Stupid
featured on Feb. 7, 2007 contributed by   Macstorm

Leeroy Jenkins wasn't the first person to do something stupid in an RPG setting nor will he be the last. This was an early tabletop adventure for my group, so the details are a little sketchy. I recall four of us playing and my character for this campaign was a human psionic. I think that we had an elf ranger and a dwarf warrior, but I can't forget our halfling thief, as he was the basis for this story. It wouldn't be incorrect at all to say that the person playing the halfling wasn't right in the head. He would just do stupid stuff. It could be annoying at times, but thankfully our gamemaster usually turned his stupid decisions into funny events. Usually.

We were adventuring along the banks of a river when we came in sight of a camp. It was late and foggy, so even our ranger couldn't make out whether or not the camp was friendly. We decided to set up camp just outside of the view of the camp until the fog passed or morning came. I can remember gathering supplies while we had left the halfling on watch. This usually meant that one of the rest of us actually watched while he played around or slept. Well this time he was the first person to spot a group of ogres coming toward us from out of the river. He was shocked and was a little unsure what to do, so he just did the first thing that popped into his head.

Which ending is the real one?

A.

He ran off. He didn't warn us or anything. He just ran as far away as he could as quickly as he could. This was both good and bad, because the ogres started after him. He was much faster than the ogres, but when we got back to camp we neither knew where he had gone nor why he had left. We found out later when the ogres gave up their chase and came back to find us at the camp.

B.

He screamed. This was bad, because the ogres were dumb creatures that hadn't even noticed our camp in the thick fog. However, they did notice a wildly screaming halfling. The ogres destroyed our camp and send us running. We didn't try to fight, we just ran away... right into the camp of the rest of the ogres. Needless to say, things did not go well.
