Looking in the Wrong Place
featured on Jan. 24, 2007 contributed by   Nwash

In our adventures in the arctic region of my friend's realm, I've been playing a female enchantress named Maya, who came to the arctic to study under an eccentric and mysterious wizard named Lorne. During one day of exploring Lorne's tower, Maya found an interesting magical device on the top floor that allowed her to see virually any distance place in the world by rotating a large globe. She naturally looked over the arctic area for anything interesting to explore, deliberately avoiding looking at a well-known ancient city since entry into that city was forbidden by the gods. She didn't think they'd take too kindly to someone looking there, either. Eventually, curiosity overwhelmed her, and she turned the device to the location of the ancient city.

Which ending is the real one?

A.

She was able to get some good overall views of the city, but she didn't have any way to zoom in and look more closely at anything. After a while, she realized the globe was glowing, and it was slowly glowing more brightly. She could hear that the wind outside was beginning to pick up, but she wasn't able to see the storm clouds forming above her. Suddenly, Lorne ran into the room and hit the globe with one hand, causing it to spin and sending the view flying across the world. He then pushed Maya toward the wall of the tower and pressed himself against the opposite wall. A few seconds later, lightning burst through the top of the tower, striking the exact spot where Maya had been standing. They stood there for a few minutes, simply calming down as the wind died down and the skies returned to normal. Lorne then politely warned her not to look at that particular location again and calmly left the room, leaving Maya in wonder at the entire event.

B.

At first, she saw nothing but snow; the city seemed to covered in an intense blizzard. Before long, a face appeared in the falling snow, looking directly at Maya. She immediately turned the device to a new location, but still, a sudden, loud, bonechilling wind passed by the area as a further warning. She backed away from the device and stood in shock for a few minutes. Lorne, having been elsewhere in the keep, knew exactly what she had done, but being as mysterious as ever, he didn't yell at her or chide her; in fact, he seemed quite unsurprised and calm about it, just warning her that she shouldn't look there again.
