Blackguards 2 has another video designed to inform both veteran and new players alike of how the game works. This second feature video provides further information on the changes made between Blackguards and Blackguards 2.
The biggest change is the Open Strategy Map, which creates an overworld of connected battles and towns and the order players will have to conquer them in. Each area will present players with information on how difficult it will be to take and what rewards there are to be gained.
Another addition are mercenaries, a group of up to ten units who need to be recruited. Players can then take these additional fighters, ranging from warriors to thieves to mages, into battle with them. Blackguards 2 hopes to make them more than faceless soldiers to be assigned tasks to, and to help with that they have created a camp area, where players can freely talk to the people in the party. Players can also talk to specialized merchants and even interrogate prisoners who have been captured here.
Towns players have captured can also come under attack, which leads to the more defensive aspect of the game. Before battles in towns and cities, players will be able to set up traps around the battlefield. If the player loses the town, they have the opportunity to take it back, but it will be more difficult.
The last major change is introduction of Endurance, which is a resource used to power non-magical abilities. Now regular attackers will have a more level playing field, at least rules wise.
Blackguards 2 is set to release January 20, 2015 for PC and Mac. It will be available for the price of $29.99/£22.99/€29.99.
